EU citizens can soon apply for a new UK business visa. As the UK approaches the end of the Brexit transition period, significant changes are coming into effect. The new points-based immigration system comes into place on 1 January 2021, bringing many changes to how EU citizens can enter the country.

Under the new rules, EU citizens can apply for a range of UK business visas such as the Start-up, Innovator or Overseas Sole Representative visas.

Start-up Visa

The Start-Up Visa is for those intending to start their first business in the UK. This category is open to graduates and non-graduates. To be eligible, the business must be endorsed by an approved body. You must prove your business idea a new business that is innovative and viable.

Innovator Visa

Experienced business owners will find the UK Innovator visa a better option. To be eligible you need to have your business endorsed by a sponsor who assesses it. You must supply at least £50,000 of investment funds from a legitimate source. Established businesses endorsed for an earlier visa are exempt from this requirement.

Overseas Sole Representative Visa

This business visa is for those who are setting up a UK branch or subsidiary of an overseas business. To apply to act as the sole representative of an overseas business you must be employed by a business headquartered outside of the UK. You can apply for this visa if you are a worker for an overseas newspaper, broadcasting organisation or news agency on a long-term assignment in the UK.
