Tier 2 Visa Extension Guide

Provided you continue to be employed by the same company that sponsored your first Tier 2 Visa application and you continue to meet the eligibility requirements, you are able to apply for your Tier 2 Visa to be extended.

Your employer is responsible for applying for an unrestricted Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) when they agree to extend your contract. Once the CoS has been assigned, you then have three months to apply for a Tier 2 Visa extension. If your current visa expires within 60 days, you must apply straight away.

To get an extension to your Tier 2 Visa, you need to:

  • Earn an appropriate salary –which cannot be lower than that in your initial application
  • Acquire a new Certificate of Sponsorship
  • Provide biometric data –fingerprints and a photograph
  • Provide evidence of maintenance funds
  • Provide evidence of your ability to use the English Language
  • Be present in the UK

Should you apply to extend your stay beyond three years, you have to pay £1,408 plus £1,408 for each dependent. The fees may be lower if your job role is on the Shortage Occupation List. There is an additional charge of £19.20 to take your biometric data.
