The visa application system is a two-stage process. The application begins on a government website.
The applicant is then sent to the website of a private company who will arrange the documents and biometrics. These companies go between the visa applicant and the government. As a result, applicants rarely deal with the Home Office directly.
Some of the problems are:
Ambiguous application forms – for example, applicants are asked “have you ever left the UK voluntarily?” which has a specific meaning in immigration law — but is meaningless to most ordinary people!
Contradictory communications – applicants are often asked to both bring a passport to an appointment and also to post them to a government office!
Inappropriate advice – some applicants are given incorrect views on the likelihood of their application’s success, or how the decision-making process works.
Non-functional upload systems – The uploading system has had technical problems and can often be completely non-functional.
Administrative Delays – Applicants have reported delays in decision making, even when paying for the priority service.
Lack of appointments – In recent weeks there have been delays in appointments, with long waits for applicants.
