The Government has relaxed certain visa rules.   On the 24th March, the Home Office announced that people whose leave had expired after 24th January but could not leave the country due to either self-isolation or travel restrictions can have their visa extended to 31st May.

Unlike other countries that automatically rolled out visa extensions, foreign nationals in the UK must still notify the Government. A dedicated Coronavirus Immigration Team has been set up to handle such queries. Married Partner Visa and Fiance Visa immigration rules are still in place. This means applicants must ensure they meet all the requirements.

Exceptional Circumstances

If your wedding has been cancelled and your Fiance Visa is therefore invalid, the Government may extend your visa for another six months but there is no guarantee so it is best to speak to a legal professional. You may need to apply for and pay for the visa again.  You may, however, be able to do so while remaining in the UK.

The visa extension policy will be reviewed again closer to the 31st May 2020 deadline. In the meantime, our immigration lawyers are keeping an eye on updates to the rules and are able to advise you on your options.
