The Spouse/Unmarried Partner Visa gives you the right to stay in the UK for a period of up to 30 months. It can be extended for a second 30-months period after the initial term has expired. To extend a Partner Visa, you must submit an FLR (M) application form to the Home Office.

Spouse or Partner Visa extension: What are the requirements?

There are certain requirements to apply for a Spouse/Partner Visa extension:

  • You must continue to meet the financial requirements (for a partner with no dependents, that is an income threshold of a gross annual salary of £18,600 or more).
  • An applicant whose ‘leave to remain’ expired on or after the 1st of May 2017 must satisfy new English language requirements. The test covers writing, listening, reading and speaking.
  • You are still a genuine relationship and permanently living together.
  • You continue to meet the suitability requirements –relating to character, conduct and your previous immigration history
  • You are in the UK lawfully

If you do not meet all of these criteria for visa extensions then the immigration authorities will reject your application outright.
