On 31st January this year, the United Kingdom left the European Union. A transition period is now due to end on 31st December 2020, during which Europeans can continue to enjoy the freedom of movement in the UK but are recommended to begin to apply for settled status.

Most EU citizens should find the settled status application reasonably easy, although some who are more vulnerable in some way or have less of the required evidence of their past residence in the UK — e.g. if they have never worked or claimed any benefits — may struggle with the application process and need professional help.
