Many innocent migrants will be caught up in the government’s net as it tries to catch illegal and dangerous immigrants. This will include doctors, lawyers, teachers, business owners, academics, engineers, scientists, IT specialist and healthcare professionals. These people have all contributed considerably to the economy of the UK.
When these citizens apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR), they may find themselves battling stringent rules and rejection letters. Home Office officials are issuing deportation orders under Paragraph 322(5) of the 2014 Immigration Act. Consequently, people are then ineligible to apply for any other UK visa and must ‘voluntarily’ leave the UK – within 14 days. In the meantime they are denied access to free healthcare, are dismissed from their jobs and are barred from renting property
Court Cases to Challenge Home Office Decisions
According to the Highly Skilled Migrants support group there are as many as 1,000 innocent migrants in this situation. The support group has raised over £40,000 to take Home Office officials to court – and in 9 out of the 10 cases so far they have won, with the judge ruling that the government’s application of the law was wrong.
