1 – Turkey Shortage
58% of seasonal poultry workers are from outside of the UK. Without these seasonal workers we could be left short at Christmas. The CBU have recommended that the government introduces a Seasonal Agricultural Labour scheme to get migrant workers to the UK when needed.
2 – Glastonbury Gone
Without workers from the EU we will struggle to fill bar staff and security guard rules. The extra costs for visas will increase ticket prices. The creative industry will struggle without free mobility.
3 – Failed Fibre Optics
Over half of construction workers in the UK originate from newer EU member states. Without these workers we could have nobody left to dig up the rules to install fibre for fast internet. The CBI is suggesting that rules are relaxed to make labouring in the UK attractive after Brexit.
4 – Anxiety at the Airport
Losing EU workers could result in longer queues in arrival and departure lounges. EU workers cover many roles in UK airports, from baggage handlers to mechanical engineers. A no deal Brexit could also mean we need visas every time we travel to the continent.
5- Empty Shelves
A bad deal on Brexit could mean that food could begin to run out as they get held up at the border. 40% of our fresh produce comes from the EU so supermarket shelves would quickly start to look sparse.
