Dissolving a civil partnership is the same process as a divorce, except for the legal definition of adultery relating to heterosexual sex only. Adultery, therefore, cannot be a reason to dissolve a civil partnership. Instead, being unfaithful would constitute unreasonable behaviour which is a legitimate reason.
You should seek legal advice if:
- you are at risk of becoming homeless
- you are at risk of domestic abuse or domestic violence
- your ex-partner is not giving you sufficient access to your children
- you are in a vulnerable financial position
- you are unsure what is a fair settlement
- you have a lot of assets
- you were married abroad
- you, your ex-partner or your children are non-UK nationals
