1: There is a high refusal rate
In 2017, the refusal rate for applications for a Tier 1 Entrepreneur visa was 42%. The new “Genuine Entrepreneur Test” has made is much more difficult to obtain the visa.
2: The number of granted visa is falling
The drop in visas granted represents a fall of 250 between 2013 and 2016, as a result of the genuine entrepreneur test requirement.
3: Graduate Entrepreneur Visas are easier to obtain
It is now easier to obtain a graduate entrepreneur visa, as the amount of initial investment that is required has been reduced to £50,000.
4: Up to 2,000 Graduate Entrepreneur visa places are available annually
Although universities are allowed to grant a maximum of 2,000 graduate entrepreneur visas every year, the cap is nowhere near being reached – for example, last year, only 169 graduate entrepreneur visas were granted.
5: Graduate Entrepreneur Visas are rising
Although it looks unlikely that the cap will be reached in the near future, the number of granted graduate entrepreneur visas rose by 31% in the past year. This means that it is starting to be recognised as a useful way to come to the UK as a business owner.
